Renovating Your Marriage Room by Room, by Dr. Johnny Parker

Renovating Your Marriage Room by Room
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Perfect for soon-to-marry, newly-married, or been-there-done-that couples, this book goes through the elements of sharing life together much as you'd go through a home inspection. Starting with building a strong foundation and using the correct Architect, the author then moves through the various "rooms" of marriage and ends with being sure the fence to protect it is intact.

The concepts addressed are simple and easy to understand, but they are very important to building, renovating, and maintaining a solid marriage. This is practically an encyclopedia, drawing from trusted resources and experts in the "rooms" dealt with.

Personality types. Conflict styles. Communication techniques. Coping mechanisms. While you can find books that delve into any one of these topics alone, a good overview of these and so many more is included in this resource. This is a book that applies to every person and can be used at any stage of the couple's relationship. I see it as the perfect wedding gift!

The only negative I can find is actually just a warning. I've known couples to use books such as this as a nightly devotional, especially since there is a section at the end of each chapter with reflection questions. Before doing that, I'd suggest that you read ahead and determine which of these questions you'll discuss together. Some would be better suited for self-reflection and could be "volatile" as discussion starters.

**Thanks, netGalley, for the opportunity to review this book.
